About the Opportunity
We are seeking a Clinical Scholar (Nursing) to join our team in Toronto, ON on a contract, part-time basis (8 months).
Hours: Up to thirty (30) hours per week (days, evenings, and nights). This is a fully on-site position.
Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, the Clinical Scholar is an experienced Registered Nurse who provides mentorship for new graduate nurses, internationally trained nurses, nursing students, clinical externs and nurses looking to upskill, to support their nursing practice and integration into the clinical area.

This role is designed for a dynamic and experienced Registered Nurse who is passionate about mentorship, education, and evidence-informed practice. As a Clinical Scholar, you will serve as a leader, educator, and advocate—supporting nursing staff in delivering high-quality, client-centered care that reflects Casey House’s values.
The RN Clinical Scholar is a key contributor to Casey House’s purpose and philosophy of care to create healing experiences and improve health outcomes for marginalized communities. This is more than a clinical role—it’s an opportunity to lead with purpose, inspire change, and make a lasting impact.
More specifically, your responsibilities in this role will entail, but are not restricted to:
- Provide bedside/direct teaching, coaching, and mentorship to nursing staff, clinical externs, internationally trained nurses, and students. You will model and promote empathetic, trauma-informed care that respects the dignity and lived experiences of every client.
- The Clinical Scholar will provide an ongoing presence on the clinical units to support the ongoing development of staff, as well as tracking and documentation of skillset achievements, and will provide ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the new graduate and current nursing staff to upskill, including the creation of learning goals and objectives.
- Support the development of clinical competencies and critical thinking skills.
- Promote and integrate evidence-based practices into clinical care
- Lead or support quality improvement initiatives and practice change projects.
- Collaborate with interprofessional teams to evaluate and implement best practices
- Supports new nurses to practice to the full scope of their designation.
- Support in evaluating and advancing nurses’ competencies and reporting concerns.
- Act as a role model for professional nursing practice and ethical care.
- Work closely with the CNO, Directors, Charge Nurses, Educator, Staff, volunteers, Peers, Physicians, and the interdisciplinary team.
About You
Education
- Current registration and in good standing Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) in the General Class. A Master’s degree in Nursing is considered an asset.
- Current Basic Life Support training.
- Certification in a relevant specialization (e.g. HIV/ AIDS care, mental health) is considered an asset.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical (frontline) nursing experience in a hospital clinical setting in a medical, surgical, mental health, and/or emergency department, HIV/AIDS care or community setting.
- 3 to 5 years’ experience and comfort in working with individuals who use substances, have an active mental health condition or are experiencing homelessness, or are sex workers.

- Enthusiasm for teaching, continuous learning, and nursing that inspires and motivates others

- Demonstrated ability to work independently and be self-motivated
- Adaptive problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Knowledge of mental health issues, harm reduction and the impacts of experiences such as colonization, violence and trauma on individuals and communities.
- Knowledge of health and social service providers in downtown Toronto.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and EPIC is an asset, as well as proven experience working with an electronic health record and understanding of PHIPA and other privacy regulations.
- Evidence of continuing education and commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Excellent attendance record.
