About the Opportunity:
We currently have an opportunity for one (1) Registered Nurse to join our Outpatient team on a full-time, permanent basis (OPSEU bargaining unit).
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday with after hours/evening work as scheduled. This is a fully on-site position. Candidates must be available to work in person at Casey House during all scheduled work hours.
Salary: Full alignment to ONA wage band ($39.07 - $56.00 / hour)
As an integral multidisciplinary team member, the Registered Nurse provides comprehensive, trauma-informed clinical care to clients living with HIV or at risk for HIV. Casey House clients in the Outpatient Program. Reporting to the Director of Outpatient Services, the RN will support clients with complex health, mental health, and substance use needs, ensuring holistic, client-centred care.
This role involves direct client care, harm reduction services, health promotion, and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team to enhance client well-being. The RN will be key in wound care, infectious disease management, chronic disease prevention, and mental health stabilization within the outpatient program.
Responsibilities:
Clinical Care and Client Support

Conduct comprehensive health assessments and implement client-centered care plans

Provide primary nursing care, including wound care, STI testing, long-acting injectable medications, and chronic disease management

Offer crisis intervention and mental health stabilization support
-
Administer immunizations and treatments for infectious diseases, including HIV and Hepatitis C
-
Administer long-acting injections, including antipsychotics and PrEP
-
Assist with nursing-led withdrawal management strategies
-
Coordinate care with inpatient teams to ensure seamless transitions between services
Harm Reduction and Health Promotion
-
Work alongside harm reduction workers to support clients in the Supervised Consumption Site (SCS) as needed

Provide safer substance use education and overdose prevention support

Participate in safer supply initiatives and other harm reduction programming

Support health education, self-care strategies, and disease prevention efforts
Collaboration and Education

Collaborate with social service workers, social workers, peer support specialists, and prescribers to ensure integrated, client-centered care

Act as a resource and mentor for staff, students, peers, and volunteers

Facilitate client education sessions on health management, harm reduction, and wellness strategies
Quality Improvement & Professional Development

Contribute to continuous quality improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives within Outpatient Services

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of community-based nursing, substance use, and harm reduction best practices

Participate in professional development activities to enhance clinical expertise in psychiatric nursing and addiction care
About You
Education and Experience
-
Current RN certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario
-
CNA Certification in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing (CPMHN(C)) required. Candidates currently enrolled or willing to obtain certification upon hire will be considered

At least three (3) years of recent psychiatric nursing experience, including a minimum of two (2) years in a harm reduction-focused setting
-
Experience working with clients who use substances, people experiencing homelessness, and those with complex mental health needs
-
Experience working with populations living with or at risk of HIV, along with an understanding of the social determinants of health that affect these communities, such as homelessness, food insecurity, and unemployment
-
Experience working with diverse and historically marginalized populations, including racialized, Indigenous, or 2SLGBTQIA+ communities
-
Experience providing case management and advocacy in community-based settings, prioritizing client empowerment
-
Excellent communication, advocacy and interpersonal skills
Technical Skills
-
Strong assessment and triage skills in primary care, mental health, and addiction nursing
-
Proficiency in electronic health records and documentation standards
-
Experience with harm reduction-based withdrawal management is an asset
Additional Skills and Competencies

Commitment to trauma-informed, harm reduction, and anti-oppressive care models

Ability to build therapeutic relationships with clients who experience stigma and systemic barriers to healthcare

Experience in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques

Strong collaboration, problem-solving, and advocacy skills
-
Current CPR certification and crisis intervention training (or willingness to obtain)

Record of excellent attendance
- High degree of professionalism with well-developed conflict resolution, critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
