About the Opportunity

Casey House is looking for a Lead Analyst to join our team in Toronto, ON, on a full-time basis. 

Reporting to the Chief Knowledge and Strategy Officer (CKSO), the Lead Analyst will play a pivotal role in guiding data-informed decision-making at Casey House by applying analytical methods to improve patient outcomes and clinician experience. The Lead Analyst will oversee analytical projects, collaborate with an Analytics Engineer, and translate complex data into actionable insights for executive leadership and other key interest holders. This position will supervise the Analytics Engineer. 

More specifically, your responsibilities in this role will entail, but are not restricted to:

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Lead the conceptualization and design of research methodologies and analytical approaches to address key healthcare questions.
  • Support the Analytics Engineer in understanding business requirements for data modeling and ensure that data is effectively leveraged to answer specific research and analytical questions.
  • Conduct high-level analysis of healthcare datasets using quantitative and mixed methods, drawing on expertise in social epidemiology, epidemiology, public health, and/or sociology.
  • Interpret findings and present data-driven narratives for a wide variety of audiences that inform strategic decision-making at all levels of the organization.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of dashboards, reports, and visualizations, ensuring they align with the strategic needs of Casey House.
  • Understanding of operationalization of data privacy and data security best practices in the collection, use and disclosure of data

Project Management:

  • Ensure timely delivery of analytical projects, ensuring they meet the hospital’s strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate with clinical, operational, and financial teams to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
  • Work alongside the Analytics Engineer and external consultants to establish clear goals, deliverables, and timelines

Interest-holder collaboration:

  • Serve as the primary liaison for analytical projects, facilitating effective communication between hospital leadership, clinical teams, and other interest holders.
  • Lead meetings, workshops, and presentations to gather requirements, provide updates, and discuss analytical findings with diverse interest-holders including hospital leadership, clinical team members and community interest holders.
  • Participate in strategic planning sessions, offering expert advice on the application of data analytics in achieving hospital goals (i.e. consulting with leadership, and educating hospital staff around the importance of data, metrics and evaluation of programs).
  • Collaborate with external partners, including research institutions and government agencies, on joint data initiatives

Technical expertise:

  • Knowledge of research, program evaluation and quality assurance design and methodologies to provide evidence for best provision of care and hospital process improvements.
  • Knowledge of appropriate data and data sources to provide evidence for a variety of evidence needs.
  • Strong functional experience with analytics tools and languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI), with the capability to support or even lead technical processes if required
  • While the role is not primarily technical, the Lead Analyst should be proficient enough to understand, engage with, and potentially drive technical processes, balancing both strategic and hands-on responsibilities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve insights generation processes and operational efficiencies through routine data analysis.
  • Lead efforts to enhance data governance, data quality, and data management practices within the hospital.
  • Promote a culture of data-driven decision-making across the organization.

About You

To qualify for this role, you must have graduate level training (i.e. masters degree) with a focus in social epidemiology, public health, and/or health research. Doctorate (PhD, Doctor of Public Health or comparable) preferred. 

The following skills and qualifications will also be required: 

    • Strong understanding and experience with health equity, intersectional analysis, and analyzing structural determinants of health-based data.
    • Strong ability to bring transformative/critical approaches to data analysis from an equity and social justice lens.
    • At least 5+ years of experience in data analysis, data management, health services, population health or clinical research,  and/or data science preferably in the healthcare sector.
    • Credentialed evaluator experience is an asset. 
    • Familiarity with healthcare data sources such as electronic health records (EHR), CIHI, Statistics Canada, Cancer Care Ontario, ICES, and/or other organizations that hold health-related datasets.
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to distill complex data into clear, actionable insights.
    • Proven track record in leading and managing projects, including cross-functional teams.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Proficiency in data analytics tools and programming languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R, SAS, SPSS) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI). While deep technical expertise is not mandatory, a solid working knowledge is highly valued
